From the Ice to Research: A Former WYHA Player’s Research into Why Young Athletes Delay Injury Care

WYHA is proud to share the work of former WYHA player and Wayzata High School student Samuel Wang. Samuel played with WYHA from 2016–2020, from Squirt through Bantam, and has since turned his own experience as a young athlete into an independent research project exploring injury care among student-athletes.

Samuel has prepared an educational article based on his work, offering perspectives for athletes, parents, and coaches to consider when it comes to recognizing injuries and making decisions about seeking medical care.

We are pleased to provide a platform for a former WYHA player to share his work with our hockey community and encourage our members to read and consider the information presented.

This article represents the author’s independent research and perspectives. WYHA does not endorse or take a position on the research, findings, or conclusions presented and is sharing this content for educational and informational purposes only. This article is not intended to provide medical advice or replace evaluation by a qualified healthcare professional.

A PDF of the study is available here.
