WYHA Overview
WELCOME TO WAYZATA YOUTH HOCKEY ASSOCIATION!
Thank you for visiting Wayzata Youth Hockey Association! Whether you are an experienced hockey player or brand new to the sport - you are welcome here!
The WYHA program is open to ages 4-19 who attend school in district #284 (the Wayzata school district). The program starts with Mini Mites and progresses to the Junior Gold and 19U levels. Youngest to oldest levels the program consists of:
- Mini Mites
- Rookie Mites / 6U
- Intermediates Mites
- Advanced Mites / 8U
- Squirts / 10U
- PeeWees / 12U
- Bantams / 15U
- Junior Gold / 19U
In a typical year over 1000 players participate in the WYHA program, plus over 400 rostered coaches, 60+ team managers & treasurers and 80+ leadership/coordinator/support/volunteer roles. We have a strong community of involved and passionate families who work hard to ensure a successful program.
WYHA is in District 3 under the Minnesota Hockey umbrella. D3 is made up of youth hockey associations from parts of Minneapolis and the northwest metro area. We share this district with Armstrong-Cooper, Delano, Hopkins, Minneapolis, Mound-Westonka, Orono and Maple Grove.
If you are considering joining the WYHA program, registration opens in August, evaluations or tryouts for eligible levels (Advanced Mites and up) typically occur in late September through early October, and the season starts late October.
LEADERSHIP & COORDINATOR ROLES
The WYHA leadership team is made up of a Board of Directors, several committee groups, and many coordinator roles. The Board of Directors meets monthly to discuss key association work and ensure a successful hockey season.
These roles are often filled by parents/guardians of association skaters who are passionate about lending their unique skillset to the organization.
